Care needs assessment and long-term care cost planning for families, guardians, trustees, and special-needs trusts, outside litigation. A certified life care planner documents the person's current care needs, projects how the level of care and its cost are likely to change, and gives the family or fiduciary a documented basis for budgeting, placement, guardianship, and trust administration decisions. When the plan must also support a claim or a court proceeding, it is prepared to the same documented standard the practice applies in its litigation work.
Elder and Long-Term Care Planning is offered outside litigation. When the same person also has an injury claim, a guardianship, or another proceeding, these pages describe how the family and fiduciary plan is prepared for each case type, to the same documented standard the practice applies in its litigation work.
Families, guardians, trustees, and special-needs trust administrators who need a documented picture of a person's current care needs and of how those needs and their costs are likely to change. The plan supports budgeting, placement, guardianship, and trust administration decisions. It is not tied to a lawsuit, and no attorney is required to engage KW LCP.
KW Life Care Planning reviews the medical record and, when appropriate, visits the person at home to document current function, safety, caregiver involvement, and the home environment. The planner determines the level of care required now, projects how it is likely to change, and identifies the settings and services appropriate at each stage, from in-home support through adult day programs, assisted living, and skilled nursing.
Costs are researched for the person's own geographic area: in-home agencies, adult day programs, assisted living, and skilled nursing, together with equipment, home modification, and supplies. The written plan is organized by care category and time period so a family or fiduciary can see what each stage of care is expected to cost and when.
Yes. The plan documents the basis for each recommendation and each cost so that a court, a trustee, or a benefits reviewer can examine it item by item. If a guardianship, trust, or other proceeding requires testimony, the planner can be retained for that purpose under a separate scope, and the plan is prepared to the same documented standard the practice applies in its litigation work.
Elder and Long-Term Care Planning is billed at an hourly rate for records review, in-home assessment, care-level determination, provider and facility cost research, and plan preparation. A retainer is established at the outset and applied against time incurred. KW Life Care Planning provides a written fee schedule and a cost estimate before work begins and offers a reduced-scope annual update.
Engagement and records collection typically take 1 to 2 weeks, the in-home assessment is scheduled within 2 to 3 weeks of engagement, and the written plan follows 3 to 5 weeks after the assessment. Annual updates, when engaged, track changes in condition, setting, and cost.
KW Life Care Planning accepts engagements in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and U.S. territories, with cost research performed in the person's own area. Offices are in Hackensack, New Jersey, and Richmond, Virginia.
